Te Puia Maori Cultural Centre and Rotorua Sightseeing
During your visit, join a guided tour of the Whakarewarewa thermal region and witness a traditional Maori cultural performance at Te Puia. In addition, you will have the opportunity to visit the kiwi house and see New Zealand's national bird the kiwi.
Departure point
Upon arrival at the Port of Tauranga, look for our local representative waiting for you outside the main pedestrian gate. They will be holding a sign with your group's name on it and will be located under the flagpole on the grassy area. After leaving the ship, follow the pathway marked by safety barriers that runs along the ship to the exit gates. Port security and local ambassadors will be available to guide you to the gates. Your driver/guide will be wearing a uniform of black trousers, white shirts, and possibly some orange clothing for females. The vehicles will be parked in the car park just a short distance of less than 100 meters behind where you will be met.
Tour description:
Once dropped off at the port, you will be picked up by mini-coach for a scenic drive to Rotorua. Your full-day shore excursion will take you across the Tauranga Harbour Bridge, passing through rolling farmland and the Pyes Pa Canyons. On the way, you will make a stop at Hamurana Spring, the North Island's deepest freshwater spring, for a walk among towering California redwoods to Rotorua Lake.
You will then visit the Agrodome to learn about New Zealand's nearly 70 million sheep, as well as other farm animals such as alpacas and ostriches. Once you reach Te Puia, you will have the opportunity to visit the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute and Whakarewarewa thermal village. You will see a cultural performance that brings Maori legends to life and take a walk past bubbling mud pools and steaming springs to the 100-foot (30-meter) Pohutu Geyser. Afterwards, you will have the chance to visit the nocturnal kiwi house for a glimpse of the country's eponymous icon.
Upon arrival in Rotorua, you will take a sightseeing tour of the city highlights, including the historical bath house, Whangapipiro (Rachel Spring), and the Government Gardens. On the way back to Tauranga cruise terminal, your route will be different, stopping at Kaituna Waterfalls and Kiwifruit Country to learn about kiwifruit before your shore excursion comes to an end.
